POEMS< VOWS< SPEECHES> FOR THOSE SPECIAL OCCASIONS

RAINBOW POETRY PRESENTS
                                                   WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO WRITE?
What inspires you to write even better stories or poems?

For me, sometimes it's about something that happened, an event, an experience, a celebration, or a specific person I met. It might be about a feeling I had, or even didn't have. For example when others are excited and I'm not. That could be when maybe your family is flying to Australia for a great holiday and everyone is jumping around excited, but all you can think about is how scared your are of flying in a plane. Sometimes it's when I see a photo, and think. 'I HAVE TO WRITE ABOUT THAT!'

I thought I'd post a few things that have inspired me to write a poem or even a story. It might be a photo or an experience.

Balloons always excite me. As soon as I hear that P..shh  P..shh noise I jump out of bed and race to the window. Then it's outside to see where they are and get even more excited. What gets you out of bed in a hurry? The sound of a balloon, the smell of bacon and eggs cooking, your mum or dad shouting 'GET UP!' or??

The other day I went shopping to buy a pair of trousers, and came home with a dressing gown!  That made me think it could be fun to write a story about the Mum, or Granny who always goes out to buy one thing, and comes home with something completely different. Is it because she's forgetful,  because she can't make up her mind, loves a bargain, or always gets distracted. Here's a picture of my new black shoes! Hmmmm see my problem now?

WOW WOW WOW  - when I saw a photo of Grandma P bungy jumping off the Auckland Harbour Bridge, I knew I had to share it. I tracked down her lovely granddaughter Jeanie and sent a copy of my poem 'Granny Goes Bungy Jumping.'  She loved it! I thought how inspirational is Grandma P, she's just like the fun granny I write about. I was really happy to be able to share this story with you all.  Grandma went one better, as while doing this she also raised money for the Fred Hollows Foundation, who help underprivileged people to get surgery that saves their eye sight. Having had 2 eye surgeries myself I know how much they changed my life.  Who inspires you?

When I saw this in person, part of me was freaking out, while part of me impressed. I knew I wanted use it with a poem where the little sister is always doing crazy things. This photo still makes me want to write. Maybe you could write about this rat. What name would you give it? Is it a good rat, a bad rat, a mischievous rat or maybe a scaredy cat rat! Where does it like to hide? Would you put a rat on your head? Do you have a crazy sister?
